Yoshida Kenchiku Kobo
Inheriting the craft of ancient Japan.
Yoshida Kenchiku Kobo was established in 1926 as Yoshida Kensetsu in Munakata — the only city in ancient Kyushu designated as a sacred "Shingunn" district.
Our founder, Iso Yoshida, was among the miyadaiku craftsmen who crossed the sea in 1932 to restore the main shrine of Munakata Taisha's Okinoshima sanctuary — now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
For nearly 90 years, we have consistently pursued architecture that harnesses the gentleness, warmth, strength, and suppleness of wood.
We are proud to be one of Japan's few firms that specializes exclusively in shrine and temple construction, managing every phase — design, construction, and maintenance — under one roof.

More than 1,400 years ago, Buddhism arrived in Japan from China, bringing with it temple craftsmen who taught the Japanese the art of monumental architecture. Over centuries, those techniques were adapted to Japan's climate and culture, eventually giving rise to the unique tradition we know today.
Yet in 21st-century China — where that tradition began — specialist temple carpenters have all but disappeared. Japan, too, faces a critical shortage of miyadaiku and other custodians of its ancient building arts.
Yoshida Kenchiku Kobo has devoted itself to this craft, completing countless shrines, temples, and homes over the decades. We remain committed to deepening our skills and training the next generation of craftsmen, so that Japanese traditional architecture endures for centuries to come.
